ACNE INJECTION
Acne Injection (Intralesional Corticosteroid Injection)
An acne injection, also known as an intralesional corticosteroid injection or cortisone shot, is a minimally invasive dermatological procedure in which a corticosteroid medication is injected directly into an inflamed acne lesion, such as a cyst or nodule. Corticosteroids are potent anti-inflammatory agents that help reduce redness, swelling, and discomfort in the affected area.
Indications:
Acne injections are commonly used to treat severe inflammatory acne lesions, particularly cysts and nodules that are large, deep, and painful. This treatment may be recommended when rapid improvement is desired or when lesions do not respond adequately to topical or systemic therapies.
Benefits:
Rapid reduction of inflammation, swelling, and pain
Faster resolution of deep acne lesions
Potential reduction in the risk of postacne scarring
Targeted treatment with minimal impact on surrounding skin
Suitable Candidates:
Have severe inflammatory acne, especially cystic or nodular lesions
Experience persistent lesions despite conventional acne treatments
Generally healthy and have no contraindications to corticosteroid therapy
